I was watching Anthony Bourdain's No Reservations last night as he traveled to Dubai to examine the culture and food. What he found is a city that has been literally built from the sand up in just a few years. It was a fascinating show.
One of his hosts stated that before the oil money there was not a lot to eat, and now there is much to eat. This has led to diabetes. 1 out of 4 in the United Arab Emirates which is Dubai and Abu Dhabi has diabetes. This is because of the cultural shift to more driving, less exercise, and different ways of eating-more fast food. Ah, faster cultures, faster food!
Diabetes is on the rise here in the United States because of food. Because fast food is cheap and comes in gigantic, huge sizes that encourages people to overeat. Want fries and a huge soda with that?
