How I Sold 70 Books From One Facebook Post!

Happy Labor Day!

Labor Day is Monday, September 7th

Labor Day is dedicated to American workers everywhere. And with Covid-19, they have been the heroes on the frontlines, nurses, drugstore personnel, truck drivers, grocery personnel, delivery people and so many more! Christen and I are grateful for them, and today we celebrate them!

Labor day is also the official end of summer, which always makes me a little sad because summer is my favorite time of year. But, the good news for me is that the warm weather will continue for another month or two, so there is that. :)

In business news, it was a wild ride this month! Terri Levine brought me on board as a book-marketing strategist to help her crowdfund her book on Publishizer. I knew nothing about Publishizer, the crowdfunding site she's been using to sell the books, and she was already 5 days into it. But, I agreed to take on the challenge, and I have learned a lot. But, I have to tell you, when you do something new that you've never done, no matter how good you are at what you do, it's going to be messy! And this was no exception.

It also wasn't going the way I thought it would so I had to change directions and that meant I had to get way out of my comfort zone. But what happened astounded me! I found out that I'm a much better marketer than I thought I was! And the results, blew me away. (I'll be sharing more about that in this week's article.)

Also, I just want to say that I don't think I made it clear why Terri was doing this. It was not for the money-she's giving all the book money to charity. It was to show publishers that she can sell books to try to get a better publishing deal than one she had already secured because covid has made publishers a bit gun shy. However, if you want to get a deal and can't find an agent to take you on, this the non-traditional way to get a traditional publishing deal. And if you don't like the deal(s) you are offered you can always choose to go back to self-publishing.

That's it for now!

Article: "How I Sold 70 Books From One Facebook Post!"

I was shocked! I wrote one blog post that was selling books! Lots' of them. So, I took a step back and thought about why it was working so well, and I realized that there is a system for selling books, not one at a time, but in bundles, which is what we were doing.

So today, I'm going to share it with you.

To sell books or anything else, first you have to know who you want to sell them to. And in any market, there will be two types of people who could be interest in what you offer, transactional clients and long-term clients.

Transactional clients are clients who buy once, and then they are gone. Long-term clients are clients who stay with you and continue to buy from you over time. You want long-term clients over transactional ones because it takes more effort and money to get new customers than it does to get existing customers and long-term clients spend a lot more money with you over the lifetime of the relationship. In addition, long-term customers will rave about you and tell other people about you, so you get even more customers and/or client, in general from these types of customers.

Once you know who they are, you have to find out what they want. And the best way to do that is to ask them. They may be former or current clients, and if you don’t have clients, or don’t have them yet, you can approach people you’ve connected with in social media or networking groups who fit the profile of your ideal customer, or people you’ve networked with. I ask all of the above. The key is to know what you are looking for, and then going to where they are.

Next you want to create offers that are easy for your ideal buyers to say yes to. This will depend on how well they know you and what their immediate needs are. You can sell higher-end offers to people who already know, like and trust you than you can to people who don’t know you (or in my case, who didn’t know my client).

You can leverage other expert’s relationships with their clients and customers as well. But again, you still must consider how much of their relationship with their community you can borrow. So, during the Publishizer book launch, I have been able to leverage my relationship with my community for $100 and $1,000 offers, but not $5,000 offers, because they don’t know my client. But, if I were to come across someone who knew her and knew me, and wanted her $5,000 offer, then I could possibly make that sale.

Once you know what you are offering, you have to create the hook(s) that will get their attention. There is so much noise in the marketplace in general, but if you have the right hook, or pitch, you will get your ideal audience’s attention.

For this book launch, I wrote ONE Facebook post hook that has sold 70 books so far and made $1450! That is the power of a good hook! When you know what you ideal buyers want and you give them the opportunity to get it, it's easy to get them to pay attention to your offer. Hooks are vitally important in today’s marketplace!

Once you’ve hooked people in and gotten them to raise their hands, you have to reach out to them one-on-one and have a conversation, which I did. A few purchased right away, and others required more follow-up. And, since it wasn’t my offer, but my client’s, the higher offers required that they have a conversation with my client personally as well.

But, there is a saying I learned from my sales mentor Eric Lofholm many years ago. You have to follow up until they buy or they die. Or, in this case, until the offer is gone.

So, figure out who your audience is, what they want, and how to get their attention, then make a crazy good offer that is easy to say yes to and you'll be selling books by the bundle!
