Facebook is currently testing with a few large Groups to allow the Group Admins to charge members a monthly fee for access.

A subscription-group test is underway to see if people would pay to have access to the group. The fees would range between $4.99 to $29.99 per month. They indicated that most of that money would go to the organization or person that is the admin of that group, but we all know that Facebook is notorious for changing the rules.
I believe Facebook is looking at this as another revenue source in the future.
Also there is a processing fee with Apple and Android since it would be billed through them.
It will be interesting to see if Facebook opens this up to all Groups.
