Tom Sheehan- Damon Racing looking to Independence Day Classic at Brainerd to improve program

 For Immediate Release -

The Ryan Companies Independence Day Classic

Trans Am Championship - Round 5

This weekend’s Ryan Companies Independence Day Classic at Brainerd International Raceway is viewed as a pivotal event by Damon Racing’s Tom Sheehan.

Bow, New Hampshire:  According to Sheehan’s Race-Day Notebook, a failing grade was given to the Damon Racing team after the New Jersey Motorsports Park race. Along with that score Sheehan quickly gave himself a capital ‘F’ for what he called a ‘Freaking miserable’ job of driving.

“We really failed on all fronts, explained Sheehan. “We again had brake issues which killed our handling. And then, when I should have been racing towards the front, I was trawling near the rear making errors.”

Fans should know that as a professional and top-shelf Entrepreneur, Sheehan is familiar with success. His focus as a business innovator as well as racecar driver have usually brought him compliments, not critics. He is an individual who strives for the best in all things.

“We’ve got to get better, said Sheehan. “Sure we finished 8th in New Jersey, but that’s not where I want to be with this team. Jamie (Aube) Pete (Potvin) and Mike (Weak) work hard and do a good job; they don’t want to be stroking around mid-pack either. So in preparing for this Brainerd weekend we spent increased time on the car and on homework - we must improve.

According to the Go Trans-Am Series Website, Tom Sheehan and his LTK Insulation Technologies #97 Chevrolet finished in 8th place within a field of seventeen at New Jersey. After 4 Rounds in the Chase for the Trigon Trophy, Sheehan sits 8th there too – steadily climbing from 14th in points after race one. There are 38 other competitors listed with Sheehan in the TA-2 drivers list who have raced in 2016. It is a stout and powerful field.

“Jamie (Aube – Crew Chief) reminded me on Monday that Brainerd will only be the 3rd race on our new Camaro, said Sheehan, “and that we have improved with the car each time. He’s an optimist and I trust and respect his abilities.

“Me? I’m a bit of a disciplinarian and want to be racing at the front - now. But I also recognize we’re competing against Tony Buffomante, Dillon Machavern, and Gar Robinson. We’ve also got Justin Haley, Tony Ave and others. These are all very good drivers that have super programs behind them and, I know, they’re working hard. But my guys work hard too - you have to - you’d better,” maintained Sheehan, “If you want to win races.

With the Trans-Am Series mandating the use of Spec V-8 engines controlled by AEM Infinity electronics, the racing is wonderfully close and impressive throughout each field. Damon Racing and Tom Sheehan are big believers of the engine management program and what it has also done to increase the number of teams and racers.

“The Series has created a motor package which allows everyone who competes to do so with nearly identical muscle. That helps everyone by taking away the question on whether or not we have enough horsepower, allowing us to focus on everything else. And there is certainly plenty left to consider”, laughs Sheehan.

“It’s now up to us to get our car handling and our braking problems behind us. Thankfully, Brainerd International is another of my favorites, he said. “The entire area reminds me of my home in New Hampshire. You have the Paul Bunyan Trail, those big Evergreen trees and the lakes. The track is also the flowing – fast style that I enjoy and seem to do better on.

“I believe we’ve put in our very best effort in preparing for this event,” concluded Sheehan. “Its now time to go racing - On to round five.”

While at the Ryan Companies Independence Day Classic for the Trans-Am Series, be sure to come into the paddock and stop by for a visit with Tom Sheehan and the Damon Racing team. Look for the bright yellow #97 LTK Insulation Technologies Chevrolet Camaro.
